2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
The experience of salvation gives us a ‘blood bath’ to wash away our dirt, muck and filth with the precious blood of Jesus but sanctification gives us a ‘blood transfusion’. Sanctification is the process of being made holy to reflect the nature of Jesus.
Blood transfusion provides blood or blood components to a person who has lost blood due to injury, surgery or any other medical condition. If we lose 2 ½ to 4 liters of blood a person can die. An average adult carries from 4.5 to 5.7 liters of blood. Repeated sin, transgressions and iniquities cause ‘internal bleeding’ which would lead to spiritual death eventually. Hemorrhage causes death by interrupting blood flow to the brain or heart. Allegorically, stubborn sin causes hemorrhage to our soul and spiritual death. There is no redemption without spiritual blood transfusion of the precious blood of Jesus.
Blood transfusion can be administered only if the internal bleeding is diagnosed. Likewise, only when a sin is exposed, confessed and repented we will be able to receive the life-giving pure blood of Jesus Christ. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7). Light exposes the deeds of darkness and diagnoses the life-threatening hemorrhage.
An adrenaline rush of excitement or anxiety can be felt in the blood. Hence the commonly used idiom “my blood is boiling” is used to express rage or anger. The more and more our blood is transfused with the blood of Jesus, our adrenaline rush will express the emotions and compassion of Jesus.
Three benefits of spiritual blood transfusion of the blood of Jesus:
1. Transfer: In most cases blood transfusion of infusing the blood of the donor, into the patient’s bloodstream, through the vein is a life-saving procedure. Similarly, repentance and relinquishing the old ways transfers the nature of Christ in us.
2. Transform: Spiritual blood transfusion of accepting the forgiveness of Jesus removes the contaminated desires, exhilarations and anxieties and transforms us into the likeness of Jesus. ‘Anger’ and other vile behaviour patterns can be genetically passed on but allowing the Lord to correct and change the course of our trajectory will transform us into the likeness of Jesus.
3. Traction: ‘Like attracts like’. People of similar nature attract each other. Spiritual blood transfusion attracts us to the spirit filled and spirit led saints.
We need spiritual blood transfusion until our blood diseased by sin is replaced with the holy, pure, precious blood of Jesus.
I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Prayer: Jesus My Lord, help me to heal from any hurt and haemorrhage that is making my heart sick. I need your blood to be transfused into my blood stream until I truly reflect your nature to the world around me. Amen.
