27 August 2024 – Metabolism – Part 2

Isaiah 40:30-31 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,   they will walk and not be faint.

Scientific studies have confirmed that intermittent fasting boosted metabolism. Restricting food, increases metabolic activity and a regular routine of fasting even helps to fight aging, lowers blood sugar, blood pressure, inflammation, improves gut health and boosts overall health. The research says ‘timing and duration’ between meals is crucial to improve metabolism. It is also proved that intermittent fasting can improve concentration, better memory and boost energy levels. While we fast, the liver converts the stored up fat into fatty acids which become our main energy source. Intermittent fasting routine can be one day a week or every other day to boost metabolism.

As intermittent fasting boosts metabolism, waiting on the Lord boosts spiritual metabolism. Waiting upon the Lord includes dedicated and regular time with the Lord, every day. When we wait for a doctor, we don’t tell him all that we have to and walk away. We then eagerly wait for the doctor’s diagnosis, prognosis and the prescription. Similarly, waiting on the Lord is to wait in His presence until we hear from Him. Waiting for an answer could include fasting and prayer. Such waiting will renew our strength and make us strong and youthful. As intermittent fasting is an anti-aging antidote, waiting on the Lord boosting spiritual metabolism and renews our passion, perseverance and power.

When you feel spiritually weak, weary and under attack, go on a fast and wait upon the Lord. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak (Isaiah 40:29). Fasting boosts your spiritual immune system and a fresh flush of spiritual energy is replenished while we wait upon the Lord.

Benefits of Spiritual Metabolism:

1.         Anti-Aging: It is more important to be concerned about our spiritual metabolism as we are concerned about our physical metabolism. Spiritual metabolism made the 85 year old Caleb to have the spiritual as well as physical energy of a 45 year old. I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then (Joshua 14:11). There is no retirement for those who boost their spiritual metabolism by waiting, fasting and seeking the Lord.

2.         Alertness: As intermittent fasting improves concentration and boosts memory, regular fasting and prayer makes us alert against demonic attacks and intrusions. Waiting on the Lord sabotages demonic plans and overturns the enemy’s ploy.

3.         Agility: High metabolic activity will keep a person active and fit and so will high spiritual metabolism. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1 Peter 3:15).

Boost your spiritual metabolism by waiting, fasting and seeking the Lord.

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I will fast and wait at your presence to boost my spiritual metabolism. Help me to remain young spiritually and run for you. Amen.
