04 September 2024 – Spiritual Steroids – Part 3

2 Chronicles 20:21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”

An experience that makes our faith grow stronger and unlocks the power of God is a spiritual steroid. The singers preceded the soldiers and praise preceded the procession of the armed forces of King Jehoshaphat’s army as they went out for battle. The people were traumatized by fear of the threatening coalition of enemies who had gathered against Judah. The battle was too big for them to handle but King Jehoshaphat tapped into a very important principle from the word of God and made it his source and his strength of victory.

Jehoshaphat’s actions is a scriptural principle from Deuteronomy 20:2-4 When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Jehoshaphat knew that the Lord God dwelt among the praises of His people. You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel (Psalm 22:3). He not only brought the priests to address the army and boost their faith but he went a step forward and took the singers with the army. The worship team with the harps, lyres and tambourines sang praises and preceded the soldiers with their shields, swords and spears. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated (vs 22).

Songs of Praise are spiritual steroids that would bolster our faith in the Lord and obliterate the enemy forces.

The Balance of information and experience:

1.         Sing: When you have no words to pray, ask the Lord to fill your mouth and heart with a new song. “Sing praises, strengthen your faith and overthrow the enemy.”

2.         Still: Songs of praise make your soul still, bold and confident. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you (vs 17). Judah marched forth singing and worshipping and their hearts were still, steady and secure in the Lord.

3.         Steroids: Songs of praise are steroid shots to the soul. Sing when you are afraid, sing when you are baffled, sing when you are faint and frail and give your soul a booster shot of spiritual steroids. When we sing instead of shiver, the demons will be confused and attack each other. Destroy the enemy’s plans with songs of praise.

Praise is the spiritual steroid to the soul.

Psalm 16:7 I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to choose to sing instead of sighing or shaking in fear to give my soul a booster shot of spiritual steroids. Teach me to praise my way out of my peril. Amen.
