16 November 2024 – Love Letter – Part 6

2 Timothy 3:15-17 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible is our training manual. The Word of God trains us to think, talk and walk in righteousness. Human nature is prone to sin, lie and lust. Our thoughts and actions run wild if they are not trained and bridled. We are like untrained horses. Reading, retaining, ruminating and recollecting the Word of God, will train our wild minds to think pure, holy and noble thoughts. Meditating on the Word of God will transform our mind to think lovely thoughts which then translate into admirable talk. I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path (Psalm 119:104). The Word of God trains us to decipher right from wrong to make the right choices and decisions.

For any training to be successful we need discipline, dedication and deference. If we want to play an instrument skillfully we must have the discipline to practice daily. We must be dedicated to be on time for the training and respect the instructions of the tutor. A child has to be taught and trained good manners but they don’t have to be taught to lie, covet or envy. Babies and infants from six months become envious and possessive of their parents. Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it (Proverbs 22:6). We can correct and train ourselves to make positive changes at any age.

God’s Word trains us to live righteously:

1.         Worthy: God’s Word washes and cleans the stains of sin, shame and stigma. To make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word (Ephesians 5:26). Our worth and value is in the Word of God, not in the words of man.

2.         Wise: God’s Word is packed with wisdom. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies (Psalm 119:98). His Word is the source of wisdom. The wisdom to be a physician or technician comes from the Lord. For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6).

3.         Wealthy: God’s word makes us rich, spiritually and materially. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous (Proverbs 13:22). He is the one who gives us business ideas and the wisdom to build “righteous wealth”. But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18a).

The Word of God, the Bible, trains us to walk in righteousness, truth and integrity.

Never, never, never neglect it.

Deuteronomy 29:9 So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

Prayer: Father God, teach me, correct me and change me to walk in righteousness as I discipline myself to be trained by your Word. Amen.
