2 Timothy 3:15-17 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible is a book of wisdom that tutors and prepares us for significance. God’s Word imparts wisdom and refreshes the soul. The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple (Psalm 19:7). The simple, gain wisdom and the weary, find renewed strength as they nourish themselves daily with God’s Word, as food for their soul. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17). Our minds are enlightened and our lives become fruitful as we immerse ourselves in His Word. God’s Word imparts divine wisdom that makes us fruitful.
The manna that rained down from heaven everyday to satisfy the hunger of the multitudes in the desert is the typology of the daily spiritual food, from the Word of God, to the New Testament believer. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD (Deuteronomy 8:3b). Manna had to be collected every day before sunrise; it could not be stored, (except on the day before Sabbath), and it had to be ground, baked and cooked to be consumed. Allegorically, we must feed on God’s Word everyday; yesterday’s spiritual food is insufficient for today. Mediating God’s Word nourishes the soul as ‘new revelation’ and ‘insights’ to grow spiritually. Munching on God’s word is our spiritual vigor and energy. God’s Word brings health and healing. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction (Psalm 107:20). Mulling over the scriptures becomes the medication to our body and soul.
God’s Word equips us for every good work:
1. Insightful: Meditating on God’s Word will make us efficient, intelligent and insightful. When we prioritize reading the word over our daily chores and career, our efficacy in all fields of life will automatically increase.
2. Indomitable: Memorizing the Word of God makes us indomitable. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes (Psalm 119:99). The answers to our complex problems are hidden in the pages of scriptures.
3. Impartial: Mulling over the Word will make us impartial and integrous to produce succulent fruits of good work. The Bible is the substratum of spiritual strength, stamina and success.
The Word of God, the Bible, is the bread of life that equips us to live fruitfully.
Never, never, never neglect it.
Isaiah 50:4 The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, your Word equips me for every good work. I commit to never neglect reading, retaining and reflecting on your Word. Amen.
