Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Praying in the Spirit opens our spiritual eyes and will enlighten us to see beyond the natural into the spiritual realm. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people (Ephesians 1:18). The window of hope, faith and trust opens wide as we have a continuous conversation with our Heavenly Father at all times and on all occasions. We will be able to see beyond the current impossibility into God’s power, provision and providence. Those who pray in the spirit and see in the spirit will enjoy insatiable confidence and joy.
The Apostle Paul not only preached about praying in the Spirit but he was in the mode of prayer 24/7. Even when Paul and his friend Silas were attacked by the mob for setting a demon possessed girl free, they were praying and singing in the Spirit. They were severely flogged and fastened their feet in stocks, yet they fervently worshipped the Lord on High as they saw the prison as a pulpit to preach the Gospel. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them (Acts 16:25). Paul was even able to use the bloody jail as a platform to praise God as he was able to see the prisoners as lost souls who needed the Saviour. Paul did not question, complain or doubt God even when they were unlawfully incarcerated and unjustly lashed as He was able to see the unseen realm.
Praying in the Spirit will show us ‘why we are, where we are’ and ‘what we need to do’.
Pray in the Spirit:
1. Insight: Praying in the Spirit will augment our insight into the spiritual realm. Insight is a deeper and clearer knowledge about any issue. No issue will be big enough to quench our joy as the Almighty God is bigger than anything we face. We will be able to see the opposition as an opportunity when we pray in the spirit always.
2. Impart: Praying in the Spirit will impart deeper understanding and wisdom about the truth. May give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him (Ephesians 1:17b). The more we talk to Him, the closer we will get to Him and the more we will know about Him.
3. Inspired: Praying in the Spirit will ignite the fear of God in darkened souls. The praise and worship shook the prison doors and the jailor who witnessed the mighty miracle asked Paul and Silas, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (vs 30b).
Praying in the Spirit enlightens our spiritual eyes with hope and divine revelation of Christ Jesus.
Acts 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, open my spiritual eyes with divine understanding to know you more. Amen.
