Judges 7:7 The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.”
In God’s economy, ‘little is much and small is big!’ In the eyes of God the enormous worldly wealth, power, position, influence, and affluence is nothing. The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore (vs 12). To the Almighty God, the enemy’s armies were only mere ants or pests and not an indomitable coalition army.
Gideon had mustered 32,300 fighting men; 22,000 men left because they were afraid and the next 10,000 were disqualified by the Lord. “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink” (vs 5b). Gideon’s army was trimmed and thinned to 300 men but Gideon had the host of the Heavenly Army backing the few men that were with him to fight the Midianite multitudes. Also the enemy was armed and dangerous but the 300 men with Gideon were not even equipped. They did not carry swords, shields and spears; he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside (vs 16b). Nothing is something and empty is full in God’s economy. Gideon’s army had no armory but the Lord caused such confusion in the enemy’s camp and used their own weapons against each other. When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords (vs 22).
God’s ways of delivering us are very mysterious. Don’t be intimidated by the size, strength or sword of your opponents. God who obliterated the lethal adversaries of Gideon with the trumpet, empty pottery and torches will defeat and shame your enemies as well.
The Mysterious of God:
1. Voice: Our praise is a weapon. The trumpet raised a voice of praise that went into the enemy’s camp and filled them with fear and dread. When people flock together to harm you, blow a triumphant trumpet of praise. The voice of praise is a weapon that will confuse the ploy of the enemy and turn them against each other.
2. Vessel: Obedience is a weapon. God can only fill an empty surrendered vessel with His divine wisdom, supernatural power, and divine strategies to overturn the enemy’s plans. A posture of prayer, submission and obedience brings victory.
3. Vision: God’s Word is the sword that will obliterate the enemy. Stand on the promises of God and watch the enemy flee. A problem in the light of God’s Word will change our vision about the peril. A mountain will look like a pebble and the raging sea like a puddle.
Small is big and little is much in God’s economy; His ways are mysterious.
Judges 7:21 While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled.
Prayer: Jesus my Mighty Warrior, as long as I’m on your side, I will be victorious. The power of influence of the world is nothing before you. Amen.
