22 December 2024 – God’s Mysterious Ways – Part 7

Exodus 13:17-22 God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea.

Our journey with Christ will be mysterious, exciting and interesting only if we partner with Him. The Lord led the ½ a million throng in a roundabout route because He knew that they were not ready to face a battle. Then, the Lord hemmed them between the Red Sea and the desert not only to perform the mighty miracle of parting the Red Sea but also to obliterate the Pharaoh’s army from pursuing them.

We will not understand God’s mysterious ways, nor will we enjoy our journey on earth, if we don’t shift positions and sit with Him in the heavenly realm and look at our crucible circumstance from His perspective. The Red Sea was like a tiny pool or a small splash of water in the palm of His hands.  Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? (Isaiah 40:12a). He saw the mighty army of the Pharaoh’s chariots and army like a swamp of bees! The Almighty trapped them in a net and drowned them in the sea. In hindsight, we can understand why the Lord took them in a roundabout route and marvel at the wisdom of the Great Warrior who trapped the charging chariots in the middle of the Sea. However, we will understand the mysteries of God in the middle of a fierce battle only if we change positions from the terrestrial to the celestial.

The most exciting bit of the exodus was walking on a newly laid cemented road in between the massive water-walls of the Red Sea. However, Israel went through it in dread because they did not see the heart of God. When the journey of life becomes tough, testing and tumultuous, lean on the bosom of the Lord God and listen to His heart beat. God is in control of the switch that turns the tempest into tranquility. The mountain is only a mole, and the raging sea is only a tiny pool of water in God’s perspective.

The Mysterious of God:

1.         Posture: When the situation is scary and mysterious, take the spiritual battle posture of bent knees and hands lifted towards heaven.

2.         Pillar: When we take the posture of prayer the fiery pillar of protection will become our rear guard. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them (vs 19b).

3.         Peace: The posture of prayer will bring the peace of God to our hearts and minds. The peace of God is the GPS in our journey.

The mysteries of God will be resolved when we change positions and see the problem from God’s perspective.

Exodus 14:16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.

Prayer: Mighty God and Sovereign Saviour, teach me not to panic but to change positions and perspective to understand your mysterious ways. Amen.
