25 December 2024 – His Name – Part 3

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The word “Mighty” means fearsome and indomitable in potent, power and strength. The name of Jesus is “Mighty God”.  This is why anyone who had a glimpse of heaven trembled in fear. “When I saw Him, I fell at his feet as though dead (Revelation 1:17a). When John saw Jesus in a vision in the Island of Patmos he trembled and fell like a dead man! The same power and potent of the Almighty was contained in the human body of the baby born in a manger. Jesus was the Mighty God in a human skin suit.

Jesus did not come into this world as a helpless babe but as a Mighty God and Almighty King to redeem the lost and bound. The redemption work of Jesus started as soon as He was born. The shepherds during the time of Jesus were considered “unclean” and “outcast” because of the nature of their profession. They did not keep the Jewish rituals and purification. They also killed unclean predators that attacked their flock. At the birth of Jesus, even as a vulnerable baby, He redeemed the unclean shepherds. The shepherds were the first to behold His glory and worship God as a new born baby (Luke 2:20).

The purpose of the birth of Jesus was to redeem the lost and Christmas should be celebrated to reach out the bound and outcast, as it was done in the first Christmas.

His name is Mighty God:

1.         Power: Christmas is a celebration of the power of redemption. Law cannot redeem the loathsome sinner, adulterer and ruthless betrayer; only the Mighty God can through His blood.

2.         Potent: Christmas is a time to celebrate the potent of the Almighty. You and I can never fall too far for God’s mighty hand to reach us.

3.         Purification: The visit to the manger on the first Noel purified the unclean shepherds and the Christmas celebration every year reminds us of the purification through His birth, death and resurrection.

Only the Mighty God can break the yoke of sin and set us free. Celebrate the redemption through Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!

Prayer: Dearest Jesus, may I never forget the true meaning of Christmas and to celebrate You today. Amen.
