John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The word “glory” of God appears over 600 times in the Bible but what does “Glory” mean? In Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek the word glory has several meanings. It encompasses the greatness, splendor and awesomeness of God our Creator. The Old Testament, the Lord God used visual aids to exhibit His glory. His splendid glory appeared as a pillar of cloud and fire. Moses was covered by the glory of God on Mount Sinai. However, we the New Testament believers see the glory of God in Christ Jesus.
Glory of God is nothing but the innate nature of God. God is gracious and full of compassion, mercy longsuffering; He is slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness and our righteous judge. Our vocabulary is not sufficient to fully elucidate His nature, character or power. So, glory is nothing but God’s holiness, majesty and grandeur radiating and glowing through Christ Jesus. God does not merely show love, He is love. He does not just give us peace, He is peace. He is not just the source of joy, He is joy. Hence, it will be accurate to say “holiness, love, peace, joy, grace, goodness, kindness, power and magnificence” are embodied in the person of Jesus Christ as the “Glory of God”.
Research says that love can turn into hate within a few minutes, especially from betrayal or disappointment. However, love only multiplied as Jesus climbed the cross. Hence, treachery and torture couldn’t tamper His nature.
The Glory of God – is the nature of God:
1. Cradle: He chose to be born as a helpless baby because God so loved the world. Love was born in the cradle. The glory of God was contained in the little babe Jesus. This is why the angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest”.
2. Cross: On the cross “grace” hung to redeem the world from the clutches of sin.
3. Crown: It was “mercy” that took the crown of thorns, the flogging and the abuse to set us free from curses.
The Cradle, Cross and Crown exhibits the glory of God. Jesus was the personification of God’s Glory.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to live under the glory and reflect your glory(nature) to others. Amen.
