James 5:17-18 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
Everything that is tangible in the natural realm is first spoken and commanded in the supernatural realm. Elijah was able to control the atmospheric conditions and the weather pattern of Israel by a simple prayer. His prayer was the divine activation for a series of events. There was famine for 3 ½ years, then fire fell from heaven and there was flashfloods at the end of episode. There was a secret about the prayer of Elijah that resulted in the extreme outcomes.
Elijah’s prayer was purposeful. He did not shut the heavens to take revenge on the wicked King Ahab. He prayed for the Lord to stop rain and dew to bring conviction through drought. Israel at that point was steeped in idolatry and harlotry. His prayer was passionate. He did not leave his position of prayer until he saw the cloud on the sky in size of a man’s hand. His prayer was powerful. The prayer of the righteous opens heaven’s doors.
Selfish, purposeless and inconsistent prayers will remain unanswered. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures (James 4:2b-3). Ask purposefully, seek passionately and knock piously to cause a ripple effect of divine activation.
Spiritual Activation:
1. Famine: Elijah prayed for conviction not judgement or revenge. Hence the Lord shut the heavens until he heard Elijah’s prayer for rain. Pray purposefully.
2. Fire: Passion is the fire that will keep our purpose burning until it is accomplished. Pray passionately.
3. Flashfloods: Pray sincerely, faithfully and unswervingly for the answer. Elijah persevered until the famine turned into flooding. The Lord God is waiting for us to pray incessantly and consistently. Prayer of the righteous with the right motive will be answered. Pray powerfully.
Purposeful, selfless, passionate and perseverant prayers of the righteous are powerful. Pray audaciously standing on the promises with confidence.
Prayer: God my Jehovah, fill me with the same fire anointing that Elijah had to pray purposefully, passionately and powerfully. Amen.
