Acts 2:17 “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people; your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams”.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit was only for a selected few before the birth of Jesus. Prophets, priests and kings were anointed for a particular purpose, to accomplish a specific task. However, after the resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh, fulfilling the promise given to Joel in 2:28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. The kindest act that humanity has ever experienced was the death of Jesus on the cross, for our sins, and the indwelling of His Spirit in us.
After the death and resurrection of Jesus, through His blood we are all qualified for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We can never become holy to receive the anointing. Anointing is a gift. In fact, the anointing purifies and sanctifies us to serve Him. Anointing is to testify the resurrection of Christ Jesus and accomplish His purpose. It is given not for our benefit but for the benefit of others to perform signs and wonders in His name. Those who are ‘called’ are ‘anointed’ and ‘commissioned’ to accomplish His will and to build His kingdom on earth.
Few vs. All:
1. Transform: The anointing of the Holy Spirit will first transform us before it touches others. BC the anointing was on prophets and priests but after the resurrection of Jesus the anointing clothes us with power and transforms us.
2. Task: The anointing of the Holy Spirit is not for our personal benefit but to bless others. Anointing transforms ordinary people into extraordinary powerhouses.
3. Testify: The anointing gives us the boldness to testify about the resurrected Christ.
The anointing marks the difference between AD and BC. Before Christ, the anointing was not available for all, but AD, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is available for all flesh who accept Jesus as their personal saviour.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, come and dwell in me and clothe me with divine power to proclaim the goodnews of the Gospel to the world. Amen.
