18 February 2025 – BC & AD – Part 7

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

In the Old Testament the tabernacle of Moses was divided into the outer court, the Holy place and the Most Holy place.  In the Rabbinical tradition, the entrance or the gate to the outer court was named “the Way”; the door to the Holy Place was “the Truth” and the entrance to the Most Holy Place was called “The Life”. So when Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” the Jews were furious as they understood that He referred to the tabernacle.

Before Christ, under the Mosaic covenant, the gate of the temple led them to the altar of sacrifice that saved them from condemnation. Then the pathway to the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place identified and separated them as a special people unto the Lord. AD, Jesus said, anyone who believes in Him will be saved, redeemed and sanctified. There are no more works based liberation but Word based salvation, redemption and sanctification.

Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the Life:

1.         The Way: There aren’t ten ways to salvation. There is only one way that is through the shed blood and the broken body of Jesus Christ. Our sins are forgiven by faith and our curses are broken by His blood when we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.

2.         The Truth: The Holy place contains the menorah or the lamp stand, the showbread and the table of incense. The truth is hidden in Him. He is our bread of Life and He is the light of the world and the only one who should be worshipped.

3.         The Life: At the door of the Most Holy Place, ‘The Life’ was the altar of incense. Worship and intercession takes us into the most Holy Place to dwell with Him.

BC is a shadow of AD. Jesus is the way the truth and the life and through His blood and body we can enter into the door of Life.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, guide me to walk into ‘The Way’ and be saved by your blood. Lead me to sit in the Holy Place and be redeemed by the Truth, and to dwell in the Most Holy Place and inherit eternal life. Amen.
