Exodus 14:24 But just before dawn the LORD looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw their forces into total confusion.
The eyes of the Lord pierced down at the ferocious fleet of horsemen and troops of the Egyptian army that pursued the Israelites. The Pharaoh took about six hundred of his best chariots and chased after the redeemed Hebrew slaves.
A chariot drawn by two horses can run at a speed of 40km/hour and a normal person can walk at 1.42km/hour. Imagine the throng, fleeing in fret from the chasing chariots, with their families and livestock. So, at the morning watch, at dawn between 3am to 6am, the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire on the pursuing chariots and horsemen. His look threw the Egyptian army into confusion and jammed the wheels of the chariots! The chariots that were racing at 40km/hour jammed to 0.4km/hour and got stuck in the mud in the middle of the Red Sea. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt” (Exodus 14:25). Terror gripped the hearts of the violent warriors and they tried to turn around but the Lord caused the sea to close-in on the enemy and thereby saved His children.
All that the Lord did was that the LORD looked down from the pillar of cloud. The vigilant eyes of the Lord will look down on the enemy and the oppressor as we look up in prayer, in the morning watch, before dawn. The piercing look of God’s vigilant eyes will petrify our enemies.
Vigilant Eyes:
1. Watch: As we stand on our knees in prayer in our prayer closet, the Lord will look down from the pillar of fire and watch over us.
2. Warring: The piercing look from the heavenlies of the Almighty is the warring lightning bolt that will annihilate the enemy.
3. Win: The vigilant eyes of the Lord will throw the enemy into confusion and win the battle. No man or the hellish gangsters can come near a praying child of God.
The eyes of the Lord will look down from the pillar of fire as we seek Him in the morning watch.
Prayer: Mighty God, look down with your piercing eyes and throw my enemies into confusion. Amen.
