10 March 2025 – Surveillance Camera – Part 6

Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

“The eye is the window of the soul”. Jesus said our eye is the lamp that gives light to the soul. Our physical eyes give us vision but our spiritual eyes enlighten our inner man. Our spiritual eyes are the surveillance camera of the soul. If we close our eyes the world around us is darkened. Similarly, if our spiritual eyes are corrupt, judgemental or perverted, we will be like the blind dropping in the dark. Hence enlightened spiritual eyes are inevitable for a healthy soul.

The Word of God is the only source of vision and light to our spiritual eyes. Scriptures reveal the nature of God and enlighten our spiritual eyes. When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him (Luke 21:30-31a). As the disciples ate the bread their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus. Correspondingly, as the Bread of Life, God’s precious Word, nourishes our soul, Jesus will reveal Himself to us. The more we know Him the more we will imitate Him and will become like Him. The nature of Jesus is the glory of God that will enlighten our eyes and transform us into His image.

Enlightened Spiritual Eyes:

1.         Bread: Reading the Word of God with hunger will reveal Jesus to us. Not just dutiful reading but diligent reading of the scriptures is the manna to our soul. If we want to hear Him and know Him we must read the Word of God, the Bread of Life.

2.         Break: The Word of God must be broken before it is digested. God’s Word cannot just be swallowed but chewed. Chewing the Word is writing, memorizing and recollecting the scriptures until it is embossed in our heart.

3.         Bind: “Bind them continually upon your heart” (Proverbs 6:21).

Our spiritual eyes are enlightened by the scriptures.

Prayer: Jesus the Bread of Life, reveal yourself to me and enlighten my spiritual eyes as I read your Word. Amen.
