Exodus 25:10a-11 “Have them make an ark of acacia wood… Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it.
There was a thick veil of 4 inches separating the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. It was a solid artistically designed curtain woven from blue, purple, crimson, and white thread with embroidery of cherubim on it. Inside the Most Holy Place was the “Ark of the Covenant”. The golden chest was made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold. A solid golden lid covered the gold-plated box which was called the “Mercy Seat”. “Make an atonement cover of pure gold” (vs 17a). Interestingly, the mercy seat was not gold coated but was pure solid gold. There were two cherubim spreading their wings, overshadowing the lid. Inside this golden chest were placed the tablets of the law but later the Hebrew writer mentions that a golden jar of manna and Aaron’s budded rod were also in the ark (Hebrews 9:4). Above the lid between the cherubim God met with Moses and the priests. From the “Mercy Seat” He lavished mercy to His people.
This is the last prayer station but the most poignant place of intimacy with the Lord. The Mercy Seat was the place where God met with His people. Once we enter the Holy of Holies we will be captivated by the love and the beauty of the Saviour. The mercy seat covered the law in the ark to symbolize that the mercy and grace of God triumphs over judgement. The presence of the Lord moved from the tabernacle of Moses to the temple of Solomon but now, we are the temple of the Holy Ghost. His abode is in the hearts of those who love Him.
Prayer Station-7 – The intimate communion:
1. Meet: Meet with the Lord and hear His voice everyday in your prayer closet. It is the most intimate place of prayer.
2. Mediate: Jesus is at the right hand of God and He is interceding (Romans 8:34) and mediating for us.
3. Mercy: The mercy seat sprinkled with the blood covers our sins. No one has the right to peep in or uncover the lid of the Mercy Seat (1 Samuel 6:19).
Meet with the Lord at the Mercy Seat.
Prayer: Merciful Father, thank you for making my heart your dwelling place. Amen.
