Luke 18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
There are several things that displease God but the first and foremost would be prayerlessness. When we are lethargic and irregular in seeking Him and putting Him first, it hurts the heart of God. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). The first thought, first words and first action should be to Him. Checking the phone, before talking to God, is a subtle sin that puts God second. Wandering thoughts and worries pushes God behind the cares of the world.
Prayer should never be a tick in the box. It should be our priority. Our day should be planned around our personal time with the Lord. Planning starts from the previous night. We must go to bed at a time that will give our bodies enough rest to wake up early to spend time with God. If not, our weak flesh will keep us in bed longer than we need to and convince us to miss our time of prayer.
Missing the prayer routine will weaken our spiritual man. The weaker our spirit the greater will be the fall.
Failure to pray is a sin. Prophet Samuel said to the people that if he fails to pray and intercede he would be sinning against the Lord. 1 Samuel 12:23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. Prayerlessness is a sin.
Failure to prioritize God displeases Him:
1. Irregular: Praying when it is convenient will starve our spirit and weaken our spiritual man. It not only hurts the Lord but hurts us more when we don’t prioritize Him.
2. Irrational: Self-righteous and selfish prayers yield no gain. ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector (Luke 18:11).
3. Indignant: God does not hear angry and judgmental prayers condemning others.
Let God have the first few minutes/hours of our day.
Prayer: Father God, may I never take my time with you lightly but help me to always prioritize you above all else. Amen.
