Exodus 17:1-2 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
The Amalekites attacked the Israelites while they were peaceably journeying to Canaan as they were intimidated by them. The battle with the Amalekites was a unique one. While Joshua fought in the valley, Moses prayed on the mountain. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning (vs11). Moses fought the spiritual battle with the spiritual sword on the mountain top, while Joshua won the physical battle in the valley. The battle with the Amalekites was a spiritual battle not a physical battle. Hence spiritual armory and heavenly army were inevitable.
The spirit of Amalek is still prevalent among us. The weapon to win over this destructive and dangerous spirit that comes to steal, kill and destroy is “prayer”. The spirit of Amalek subtly attacks the unity of the family. The toxic demonic spirit steals purity, kills peace and destroys joy. If we entertain this spirit it will steal our prosperity and destroy our posterity. The spirit of Amalek creeps-in when our praying hands lower down. Slackness in prayer life opens the door for the unseen enemy to crawl-in and snuggle under the comforter in our home. Prayer is the weapon to win over the spirit of Amalek.
The Unseen Enemy:
1. Scripture: Our sword against the spirit of Amalek that comes to destroy our peace and progress is the Word of God. Use the scriptures to drive out the unseen enemy that whispers foul ideas and animosity into your ears.
2. Silence: Give the spirit of Amalek a cold shoulder and a deaf ear. Do not entertain ugly thoughts and speak/confess hopelessness. When we do so, we become the voice of Amalek.
3. Summit: Go up to the summit of the prayer mountain and lift your hands towards heaven. We win over the Amalek in our prayer closet, not in the public court.
Win the battle against the spirit of Amalek with your praying hands.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I will stand with my hands towards heaven and defeat the destructive spirit of Amalek. Amen.
