Jude 1:20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit.
“Faith believes that God will do what He says He will.”
Feed your faith and starve your fears. Feed your faith with the Word of God. Light, water and nutrients are essential for plant growth. Seeds planted in fertile soil with an abundant supply of sunlight and water will germinate and grow. Metaphorically, to build our faith our soul must be spiritually nourished. God’s Word is the food to our soul. The light of the Holy Spirit converts the information into revelation. The application of the truth from God’s Word builds our “faith-muscles”. As sunlight is inevitable to plant growth, the Holy Spirit enables the process of photosynthesis to bring revelation and repentance.
Overload of information will only make us theologically knowledgeable and spiritually proud. But faith is built by revelation and practical application. After Paul travelled around Asia Minor, Macedonia and Italy he went back to the churches and strengthened their faith exhorting them to exercise their faith. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches (Acts 15:41). He warned them that ravaged wolves will come to distort the truth and destroy their faith. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock (Acts 20:29). Hence it is important to guard our hearts from fear, felony and false teachings. Faith that is guarded and guided – grows.
The Faith Bubble:
1. Guard: To build our faith and grow in faithfulness, we must learn to guard our hearts. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Unnecessary information, unwanted images stored in our memory and unwholesome conversations will corrupt our faith. Guard your heart from anything that would contaminate your faith.
2. Guide: The Bible is the only manual that will guide and build our faith. So, keep away from vain philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition that could breakdown faith.
3. Grow: Faith grows when we devour God’s Word. Read, repeat and recollect scriptures and build faith muscles.
Feed your faith and starve your fears.
Prayer: Father God, I will read, repeat and recollect your Word to grow my faith. Help me to guard my heart from anything that will pollute faith. Amen.
