Psalm 18:33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights.
Legs carry the weight of the body and are crucial for our mobility, stability and posture. Strong legs aid with the overall wellbeing as it enables movements such as walking, running and exercising. Spiritually, “legs of faith” are very important for our spiritual progression. Weak legs of faith will keep us in lower plains but strong legs will enable us to tread on heights.
The legs of a deer, especially the hind legs, are incredibly strong. The long and slender legs are adapted for running, leaping and swimming and are crucial for agility and speed. The Sovereign Lord makes our “legs of faith” strong to climb great heights to the top of the spiritual mountain.
David in Psalm 18 expresses his faith and trust in the Lord God who saved him from the hand of all his enemies and King Saul. In the song of thanksgiving and praise David talks about the “legs of faith” that carried him into safety during troubled times. From the time Prophet Samuel anointed David, it took about 15 to 17 years for David to become king over Israel. But it was during the time of waiting in the wilderness the legs of his faith grew strong and steady.
“Troubled times, trials and tornados are training grounds to grow strong legs of faith”.
Strong Legs of Faith:
1. Feed: If we don’t feed on God’s Word, fear will eat us alive. Meditate on a promise word-by-word and phrase-by-phrase. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress” and “my deliverer” (Psalm 18:2a). We can munch on “The Lord is my rock” for hours until it strengthens the muscles, tendons and bones of faith.
2. Follow: Follow His footsteps. The hind legs of the deer will land exactly on the track of the front feet. Let Jesus take the lead. Follow Him.
3. Focus: Focus on the promise and not the peril. Deer are alert and agile and are very sensitive to the environment around it.
The legs of faith grow with the nourishment of God’s Word. Legs of faith are strengthened as we focus and follow His footsteps.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, make my legs of faith like the strong legs of the deer to tread on spiritual heights. Amen.
