2 Kings 19:35 That night the angel of the LORD went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the surviving Assyrians woke up the next morning, they found corpses everywhere.
“One is too many for the Lord.”
King Sennacherib laid siege to Jerusalem. The Assyrians multitudes surrounded Judah like locusts. Sennacherib was a lethal Assyrian king who belittled King Hezekiah, the King of Judah. He sent a very derogatory letter to Hezekiah which the messengers read to the people in Hebrew to intimidate them. When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the temple of the Lord (vs 1). Israel was trapped like a bird in Jerusalem with the vicious enemy around them. Hezekiah went into the temple and spread the disparaging letter in the presence of the Lord. That night the Lord sent ONE mighty angel who assassinated 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. While the angel was thrusting his sword through the bellies of these warriors the rest of the army were in a deep coma. It was only the next morning that they realized that they were sleeping next to a corpse!
We might find ourselves in a predicament of Hezekiah time and again. The first thing that Hezekiah did was that he went into the temple of the Lord. The Lord didn’t send an angelic army; He just sent ONE mighty angel who defeated the formidable force that came against Hezekiah. With God on our side, “One is Too Many”.
The Power of One:
1. One Angel: The myriads of angelic army were watching the ONE angel destroy the multitudes. The ratio of Heaven Power:Human Power is 1:185,000! All we need is one angel on our side to fight our battles.
2. One Sword: One sword and one angel put an end to the threat. The angel’s hand did not get tired as he annihilated the massive Assyrian army. One promise verse in the Bible is like the sword of the angel, that is sufficient to obliterate the enemy’s plots.
3. One Strategy: The strategy to thwart the demonic plans is to take shelter in the presence of the Lord.
“With God on our side, ONE is too many”
Prayer: Father God, help me not to be threatened by people or power. With one angel with me I can defeat an army. Amen.
