Deuteronomy 6:4 The LORD our God, the LORD is One.
“ONE LORD”
The very first commandment that the Lord gave His chosen people was –“You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). There is no other power, authority or dominion that can be compared to our God. No power can oppose our God. He is Almighty, Omnipotent and Omniscient. The Lord is ONE. God is a spirit. Hence He cannot be contained in any form or image and cannot be fashioned into an idol. The Creator cannot be trapped into a manmade creation.
Gideon was one of the judges whom God raised to save Israel from their enemies. He was not a warrior or a leader. Yet, God chose a weakling to win and wipe out a multitude of coalition armies with only 300 men. After the unbelievable victory we see that Gideon made an idol which became a snare/(curse) to his family. Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family (Judges 8:27). Gideon’s intention was not to make the ephod into a soothsaying idol! He wanted to make a monument that will continue to flaunt his success, yet the people started using it like a divination shrine and were unfaithful to the Lord. The idol/(ephod) became a snare that destroyed his entire family. Gideon’s 70 sons were killed by Abimelech, the son of Gideon’s prostitute. The idol became an emblem of disgrace.
God hates idolatry. Idolatry attracts generational curses. Career, money and materialism are the modern day idols that people worship. Let God take the NUMBER ONE place in our life.
The Power of ONE:
1. Monument: Any monument of our career achievements, awards or accolades should not take the no.1 place in our life.
2. Money: Acquiring wealth should not take priority over prayer and worship.
3. Mastery: Our skills, smartness or success should never become an idol. All astuteness, intellect and acumen come from Him. The mastery of all wisdom flows from the Master of Heaven.
“Exalting the Lord as NO.1 is the secret of becoming NUMBER ONE”.
Prayer: Dearest Lord, forgive for prioritizing my career, money or success over you. I will love and serve you faithfully with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. Amen.
