29 August 2025 – The Good Fight – Part 3

2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

“A good fight is a winning fight.”

The terminology “good fight” refers to an ardent effort or struggle that is considered morally and ethically correct, for advocating a “good cause”.

In our faith walk, a good fight is our effort and commitment to live like Jesus.  It is our devotion to follow the precepts and principles to lead a godly and holy life. In the good fight we do not use carnal weapons of harsh words, blaming or accusing. We only use the weaponry of love, patience and gentleness.

Moses responded in silence to the slander that his sister Miriam and brother Aaron spread about him. Miriam blurted foul rumours around the camp of Israel about Moses. The response of Moses to the defamation was “patience”. We do not see Moses justifying himself or attacking the brother or sister in social media. The character assassination did not even affect Moses. He stood on a higher spiritual ground, untouched by the garrulous gossip. The spiritual maturity and integrity elevated him above the meaningless chatter of Miriam and Aaron that it did not even affect him. Since Moses did not fight back God fought for him and vindicated his case.

The “posture of patience” is the fighting position in a good fight.

Good Fight:

1.            React: Do not react to slander, insult or smear.  If we react, God will not respond. Our reaction will only cause emotional commotion. It will not fix the issue but when the Lord vindicates He will restore the damaged name, shame and blame with fame and fruitful future.

2.            Retort: Don’t retort – the posture of patience is the pathway to restoration.

3.            Retaliate: Don’t retaliate – rest. If we react in anger, retort to slander and retaliate to slur, the Lord cannot reprimand the evil doers and maligners. Miriam and Aaron defamed Moses as they were envious about his anointing. Envy is a clear sign that a person is out of alignment from their purpose. The Lord vindicates the righteous.

The position in a good fight is the posture of patience. God will defend, fight and shame those who slander, if we remain patient.

Prayer: Father God, I need your help to remain patient and not react, retort or retaliate to insults and defamation. Amen.
