Hebrews 10:35-36 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
“A good fight is a winning fight.”
Confidence and competency give a player the winning edge over others. Confidence empowers a person to face challenges, take risks, pursues goals and builds relationships. We are not born with confidence. Confidence is built overtime as we overcome challenges and work consistently to achieve our ambitions and goals.
In our spiritual life, “confidence” in the Lord plays a very important role to fight the “good fight”. Unlike faith, we are not given a measure of confidence the moment we are born again. We must grow our confidence in the Lord, intentionally and consistently to become violent warriors of faith. The cancerous virus that eats away our confidence is fear.
Elijah was a prophet who witnessed famine, flood and fire on the same day. His prophetic utterance brought famine in the land for 3 ½ years. When he prayed the Lord God sent fire from heaven and at his word the floodgates of heaven opened and inundated the dry land. However, at the threat of the wicked Queen Jezebel his heart was gripped with dread and he lost his confidence to continue to fight the good fight of faith. Elijah was afraid and ran for his life (1 King 19:3a). The moment Elijah’s confidence was attacked by the vicious serpent of fear, a quitting/suicidal spirit engulfed him and he fled from the fighting ring!
Three tips to grow our confidence in the Lord and fight the Good Fight of faith:
1. Contemplate: Confidence in God grows as we have our mind set on things that are of eternal treasures and not on earthly necessities. Test every fearful foreboding to discern whether it would burden the mind of Christ. A problem at your job, a rusted friendship or a financial crisis that will not trouble Jesus should not torment us – We have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
2. Consistency: Be consistent in your disciplines even if you don’t feel like it. Consistency builds our confidence in the Lord.
3. Confidence: Build confidence by overlaying the promises of God over the problem.
Be confident that God’s children cannot fail as our victory is His reputation.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, coach me to fight the good fight with confidence in your name, blood and the Word. Amen.
