Deuteronomy 33:26 “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.”
“Jesus HELP! —the shortest, yet one of the most powerful prayers we can pray.”
The number to call for all emergencies is either “111” or “911” in most countries. The number was chosen to be easily remembered and dialed during the crisis. In a life threatening situation, the police, fire brigade or ambulance can be reached on the same number. Our thinking capacity is normally debilitated in a catastrophe, hence a number that can be easily remembered was chosen as emergency contact.
There might not be a need to call 111 in our day-to-day life but there will be spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, financial or relational needs every single day of our life. When we are harassed, confused and frustrated, the first thing we must do is to cry to the God of (your name) for “Help”.
Before performing a miracle Jesus always looked up to heaven for help. “And taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them” (Matthew 9:16). Jesus taught us a profound truth about the posture of prayer. Our posture of prayer will change our perspective.
Look up for “help” for all your needs. If we look down at what we have, we will be discouraged. The warrior of faith, Corrie ten Boom said, “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest.”
The Holy Spirit is our “Helper”. He is with us, in us and on us to help us.
Help:
1. Posture: Follow the footsteps of Jesus. Look up every time a need arises. Take your eyes away from your need and look up for help.
2. Prayer: Prayer need not been in superfluous Shakespearean vocabulary. ‘Jesus Help’ is a prayer that is more than sufficient to receive divine help.
3. Perspective: As Jesus took His eyes away from the meager meal and looked heavenward for help, the abundance from the storehouse of heaven turned the lunchbox in His hands into a luxuriant feast. Looking up changes our perspectives.
‘Jesus Help!’ – is both powerful and sufficient.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, train me to turn my attention heavenward for all my needs. Amen.
