Proverbs 7:1-3 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Our heart is a storehouse. Everything the mind retains goes into a cubical in the storehouse of our heart. Good, pleasant and happy memories as well as bad, sour and nasty occurrences are stored in the storehouse of our heart. Our heart can become an untidy godown or can be a tidy home. The heart that refuses to let go of sad and sorrowful memories becomes like a dirty stinky garbage dump. However, a heart that is quick to forgive, easy to reconcile and refuses to be offended will be like a beautifully decorated pristine home.
God’s Word is the cleaning agent of our spiritual heart. To make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word (Ephesians 5;26). Reading, ruminating, retaining and regurgitating the Word of God will cleanse our heart from sin and heal our heart from hurt. It is important to store the commandments and teachings in our heart that will guide us to live a holy and humble life. Daniel lived a praiseworthy life in a pagan world only because he had the commandments of the Lord stored in His heart. When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you (Proverbs 23:1).
Storehouse of the heart:
1. Wash: Storing God’s Word convicts, corrects and comforts. Wash your heart by reading and recollecting the Bible. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Memorize a verse every day.
2. Wise: Storing God’s Word in our heart makes us wiser than the crafty, cunning and coercing people. “Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies” (Psalm 119:98).
3. Will: God’s Word is God’s will. Many struggle to understand God’s will. Store God’s word in your heart and the Holy Spirit will bring His Word into remembrance to understand God’s perfect will for your situation.
Heart that stores God’s Word overflows with the wisdom of God.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, I commit to read, retain and recollect your Word. Holy Spirit, help me to regurgitate your Word and walk in Godly wisdom. Amen.
