Matthew 6:20: “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.”
It is important to be thrifty with our wealth, earning and spending; however, it is more important for us to accumulate treasures in heaven. “Savings” is a good financial habit that keeps us debt free and gives us a quality lifestyle. Similarly spiritual savings will enhance our divine lifestyle. Spiritual Savings is a godly discipline to develop, grow and nurture.
Just like earthly treasures we can have spiritual assets in heaven. Spiritual capital assets, working capital, investments, inventory, bank balances and goodwill are accumulated as we walk in obedience, humility and integrity. Souls that we earn are capital assets with “no depreciation”. ‘Divine working capital’ is our generosity with our time and money, and our ‘divine bank balance and withdrawal capacity’ will grow as we exercise faith. When the name of Jesus is glorified by our testimonial life they are converted into ‘divine goodwill’.
Cornelius was a gentile Christian who was devoted, God-fearing and generous to the poor. His godliness overflowed in the treasury of heaven that an angel was dispatched with favour, honour and treasures. “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God” (Acts 10:4). The angel announced that his devotion, godliness and goodness have been recognized by heaven. The treasury of heaven has an unbelievable interest rate of 100-fold (100×100) for the time, efforts and loyalty that we invest (Matthew 19:29).
Be mindful of the heavenly wealth, assets and divine bank balances.
Store-up Treasures in Heaven:
1. Good: Goodness is walking in truth, integrity and love. Truth without love is hypocrisy. “A righteous man knows the rights of the poor” (Proverbs 29:7). God honours our goodness, forgiveness and faithfulness by multiplying our divine net-worth.
2. God-fearing: Fear of God is nothing but a humble and contrite heart that trembles at His Word. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word (Isaiah 66:2). Fear of God will be rewarded with favour.
3. Generous: Generosity to invest into the kingdom of God will make us asset rich with souls.
Become affluent and asset-rich by accumulating into the divine treasury.
Prayer: Father Divine, make me heavenly minded and build my assets in heaven. Amen.
