Judges 7:13-14 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”
His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.”
The Word of God is the bread of life that is packed with power. God’s Word is like ammunition. Reading and ruminating on the scriptures fill us with arsenal to face the challenges of the day. Spending time in the scriptures strengthens our spiritual muscles for the fight.
The Lord God had called a coward, Gideon, to go and fight the oppressing Midianites. Gideon had only 300 men who were not even armed. So the Lord gave him a revelation before He took him into the battlefield. Gideon and his servant snuck into the Midianite camp to eavesdrop and as they arrived they heard two men discussing a dream of a round loaf of barley that rolled into the Midianite camp that struck and destroyed them. They also confirmed that the barley loaf was Gideon. The interpretation of the dream boosted Gideon with courage to plunge into battle.
This is a beautiful metaphor of the life-giving Bread of Life that comes down from heaven. Read to receive revelation. The Bible is a “Talking Book”. Open it with expectation to receive a divine interpretation. Don’t rush to ‘google’ or to ‘commentaries’ but wait on the Lord and listen to His still small voice. He will feed all those who read, wait and listen. Revelation will ignite us with supernatural power and strength.
The Daily Bread of Life:
1. Wait: After reading a passage in the Bible, it is very important to wait and listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say. Those who wait shall receive revelation and supernatural strength.
2. Whisper: God will open our spiritual ears to the whispers of the truth and fortify our faith.
3. Warrior: Feeding on the scriptures will turn a weakling into a warrior.
It is in the waiting that we will be ignited with revelation!
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, speak and interpret the Word to fill me with passion and purpose every day. Amen.
