Deuteronomy 32:1-2 Listen, you heavens, and I will speak; hear, you earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
Carbohydrates provide energy to the body by breaking it down to glucose. Carbs are the fuel to the body and the brain. While fruits and milk are easily digestible and provide a quick energy boost, the more complex starches and fibers such as grains, vegetables and pulses/legumes provide slower but sustainable energy. Excess glucose is stored in the muscles and liver for later use.
The bread that comes down from heaven is the ‘carbohydrate to the soul’ and ‘fuel to the spirit’. Not just reading the scriptures ritually, but meditating on the Word of God methodically becomes the sustainable and steady energy source to our inner man. A word of comfort or a promise in a tight corner is like the quick energy booster banana in the middle of a tennis game.
Revelation of God’s Word from methodical and meticulous study descends like abundant rain and dew, deep into the heart. We need heavy convicting sermons like abundant rain that washes and cleanses our heart. These are words of correction and comfort that transform the mind and conduct. “Teachings” on the other hand are like dew drops that soak the heart and enable us to flourish and become fruitful. It seeps into the roots slowly and fuels sustainable growth. Hence feasting on the Word of God and meditating on the meat of the Word keeps us strong and sturdy in Christ.
The Daily Bread of Life:
1. Soak: Quick showers make flowers bloom, but daily dew makes the fruit juicy and succulent. Memorizing a verse a day is necessary but the rhetorical reading and ruminating of the Word will soak into every fiber of our being making us prolific.
2. Sink: Rainwater sinks in permeable soil but heavy clay soil will not allow water to sink. Similarly, our heart must be like good permeable soil that absorbs the teachings and sinks God’s Word deep into our heart.
3. Saturate: Saturate yourself in the Word of God to remain lush and lucrative.
Let God’s Word soak, sink and saturate the spirit!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, let your revelation fall on me like dew, showers and abundant rain. Amen.
