27 September 2025 – The Bread – Part 4

Matthew 16:6 “Watch out!” Jesus told them. “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” “Be careful,” Jesus said to them.

Unleavened breads are flat breads made without yeast. Unleavened breads are quick and easy to make with minimal ingredients and can be stored for extended periods of time. It is also recommended for those who are prone to yeast infection.

Yeast is the Biblical analogy for corruption, deception and hypocrisy. Jesus warned His disciples to be cautious of the leaven or the negative moral and spiritual influence of the Pharisees. They were teachers of the Law but were tarnished by the same sin that they were preaching about.

The Bible is our authenticating source. It trumps over doctrines and theologies that are preached. Anything that does not align with the Word of God must be denounced, not discussed or delineated. The Apostle Paul warns us against false teachers and doctrines emphatically. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly (2 Timothy 2:14&16). We must step away from conversations and debates that twist the Scriptures with corrupt wordplay. These engagements will destroy the ethical and Biblical values and sow seeds of doubt. A little yeast is enough to corrupt the whole dough.

Studying the Word elates our knowledge about the Saviour but godless chatter will derail the weak from their faith. Discussions such as “why is there evil in the world”? or “how can a good God permit violence, poverty and infidelity” are godless chatter. God is not the author of evil nor does He enjoy witnessing humanity suffer. Keep away from foolish questions, contentions and theological arguments.

Like the unleavened bread that is quick to make, healthy to the belly and easy to store, the Word of God is simple, sumptuous and strengthening.

The Daily Bread of Life:

1.             Simple: Don’t complicate God’s Word. Just accept the truth like a little child.

2.             Store: Store God’s Word in your heart. His Word hidden in the heart keeps us from falling into temptations and transgressions.

3.             Strengthening: Consume the unadulterated Bread of Life and be strengthened spiritually.

God’s Word is simple – don’t complicate it.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, Help me to accept your pure, unleavened word as it is and grow in faith. Amen.
