2 Samuel 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.
“Praise, Worship and Thanksgiving are the highest expressions of prayer”.
Worship is an expression of our adoration to the Lord. It is an act that accentuates the sincerity of our heart that we esteem the Lord above all else. Authentic love is sacrificial. It is easy to sing praises to the King of Kings when we are cruising through life. However, worshiping in the storms and the struggles is a higher form of worship. Sacrificial worship is audible in heaven, appreciated and awarded by the King.
David was in deep distress as a plague had swallowed seventy thousand of his soldiers. David invoked the Lord’s anger by counting the fighting men. The Lord’s army fought with David’s troops. It was not by the strength of the muscle but by the might of the Majesty did he win all his battles. His insolent action brought indignation upon Israel. In repentance, David bought the threshing floor of Araunah for a price and offered a burnt offering to worship the Lord.
The property that David bought from Araunah to offer sacrifice was the same location that his son Solomon built the temple (2 Chronicles 3:1). David’s place of worship became the Temple of the Lord, the House of Prayer – God’s dwelling place.
“Sacrificial Worship” while we are hurting, confused and broken is the highest form of adulation (Hebrews 13:15). Sacrificial worship invites the richness of God’s awesome presence and anointing that will rest upon our generation.
True worshippers who continually offer a sacrifice of praise are the dwelling place of the Living God.
True Worship:
- Inconvenience: We would have to inconvenience ourselves by waking up at odd hours, sacrificing our sleep and comfort to offer a sacrifice of praise.
- Insight: Worshiping while we are hurting leads us into deeper revelation of the goodness of God.
- Inheritance: The temple in Jerusalem still stands on the same location as an indelible inheritance of David’s sacrificial worship.
We cannot offer a sacrifice of praise that costs us nothing!
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, reveal more of Jesus to me as I offer a sacrificial worship. Amen.
