Genesis 24:15a& 17-19 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.” “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.”
“The Blessed Jar”
The women of the town came to draw water in the morning and evening. It was about dusk when Eliezer, Abraham’s servant, prayed this profound prayer that the girl who would willingly give him water and also water his camels, would be the daughter-in-law of his master Abraham. Eliezer took 10 of his master’s camels on his journey to Mesopotamia. A thirsty camel after a long journey through the desert can drink up to 20 gallons of water. So roughly this young girl Rebecca would have drawn, manually by hand, about 200 gallons of water to fill the water trough. She would have approximately made about 85 trips to the well and the water-trough! Her extraordinary kindness, extreme sincerity and servanthood brought the favour of God and superfluous blessings.
“In the giving is the blessing and in the pouring is the multiplication”.
The life that is like the water jar of Rebecca that is willing to pour, serve and give in obscurity attracts divine blessings and incredible multiplication. Rebecca served a stranger whom she did not even know. She did not ask his name or inquire about him but served selflessly to a man and his camels that were parched and tired. Self-sacrificial giving generates supernatural increase and divine multiplication of anointing, acclamation and accreditation.
The Water Jug of Rebecca:
- Pour: Be willing to pour and invest into lives that are needy and deserving–sacrificially. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering (2 Timothy 4:6).
- Price: Don’t count the cost of service. God rewards those who serve cheerfully and willingly.
- Priceless: Selfless-service is priceless in the eyes of God. Divine gifts, favour and honour from God’s hand are beyond estimation.
“Multiplication formula = Sacrificial x Selfless giving”.
Prayer: Father God, give me a heart to give, serve and love sacrificially in obscurity as it is more blessed to give than to receive. Amen.
