2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
“Jars of Clay”
On the sixth day, God took a piece of clay and started kneading it. He then formed and shaped man and blew His breadth in the earthen clay-man, and man became a living being. Human body is mere dust and dirt; an earthen vessel. The moment we drop dead we are nothing more than dirt. In this earthen vessel of clay, God has made the light of His power, authority, majesty, greatness and splendor shine. We hold within us the incredibly great, resurrected all-surpassing power of the Almighty God.
“The jar of clay contains the extraordinary all-surpassing excellent power of Christ”.
The ‘Word of God’, ‘Worship’ and understanding ‘God’s Will’ increases this all-surpassing power of God in us. Moses knew the ways of the Lord but the people only saw His works. The encounter with God on Mount Sinai displayed the incomparably awesome power of God on the face of Moses and his face shone with godly radiance. (Exodus 34:29-35). You and I can have the same experience if we diligently seek His face. “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces shall never be covered with shame” (Psalm 34:5). The treasure of God’s power will shine through the clay-jar of our heart as we seek Him earnestly.
The Treasure in the Clay Jar:
- Clay: Clay is breakable if we are not careful. Our heart is fragile like a clay jar. Egotism will crack the jar and envy will shatter and leak the power of God in us. Handle the treasure in the earthen jar with care.
- Contents: The contents of deep revelations, knowledge or power of God are not from our intellect but God’s abundant grace.
- Container: We are only a container, a fragile clay-jar holding the glory of God. Boast about Him not about the brittle container that holds the treasure.
“Our heart holds the treasure of Glory of God”.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to carry the treasure of God’s glory with awe and reverential fear. Amen.
