Exodus 1:13-14 “So the Egyptians worked the Israelites ruthlessly. They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly”.
“The spirit of Pharaoh”
Another deadly spirit that attacks the children of God is the spirit of Pharaoh. It is a coldblooded, harsh and brutal spirit. The evil force that operates through this oppressing spirit is ‘jealousy’ and ‘demonic envy’. “But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites” (vs 12). The spirit of Pharaoh became murderous and bloodthirsty to an extent that he ordered to kill every new born boy baby of the Israelites. However, the more they were persecuted the more they proliferated.
The spirit of Pharaoh is prevalent even today. It will be intimidated by the growth, prosperity and progress of God’s children. The dread will turn them into fiendish resentment and ruthlessness. They will be emotionless, remorseless and senseless. Again, look past the people who are controlled by the spirit of Pharaoh; we do not fight against flesh but the lethal spirit that operates through people.
When oppression arises, it is a sign that the spirit of Pharaoh is at work. Do not dread this spirit. Moses went back to face the same Pharaoh that he fled from. Defeat dread. God has not given us a spirit of fear. Don’t be intimidated by man or the oppressing spirit that operates through them, no matter how influential they are. The anointing of Moses crushed the spirit of Pharaoh.
The Oppressing Spirit:
- Resentful: The spirit of Pharaoh is controlling, stubborn and oppressing. This spirit lurks at the threshold of success to tamper growth. Resist the unforeseen opposition and oppression before a promotion, new beginning or breakthrough with the promises of God.
- Ruthless: The spirit of Pharaoh will make merciless moves and celebrate cruelty.
- Reactionary: The spirit of Pharaoh is reactionary. The Pharaoh followed the Israelites into the sea that the Lord had split for his children but the same sea that gave way to Moses swallowed Pharaoh’s army.
“The spirit of Pharaoh is an oppressing spirit. Resist it with the Word of God”.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, anoint me with divine power and courage to overthrow the oppressing spirit. Amen.
