22 November 2025 – Seven Deadly Spirits – Part 4

1 Samuel 30:1-2 David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it, and had taken captive the women and everyone else in it, both young and old.

“The spirit of Amalek”

The Amalekites were a descendant of Amalek the grandson of Esau (Genesis 36:16). They were a nomadic race and cousins of the Israelites, yet the arch-rivals of Israel. They attacked them when they were vulnerable, fatigued and unguarded.  Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God (Deuteronomy 25:17-18). The Lord God commanded Israel to blot out the name of Amalek from the earth. Moses in his account concludes this with a note: “Do not forget!”

Though the Amalekites have been blotted out, the spirit of Amalek is still prevalent in this world. This spirit loots, steals and plunders when we are defenseless. They target the youth and the weaker members of the family, attacking children, teens and youth with distraction, devices and deception. They lure them into secret sins and sexual perversion and enslave them with shame, guilt and addiction. Beware of the spirit of Amalek.

The spirit of Amalek:

  1. Weak: When you are emotionally weak and spiritually fragile guard your thoughts from temptation and turpitude. Most young people run to friends who misguide them into temporary relief and cheap pleasures. Guard your children with prayer, fasting and cords of love.
  2. Wealth: This is a stealing spirit that loots our wealth and causes unexpected losses and expenses. Truthfulness is the fence around our wealth.
  3. Weary: This vicious spirit slithers into the family when we are weak and weary. Amalekites attacked Ziklag when the men were away at war. They attacked the elderly, weak, pregnant women and children who were at the end of the ½ a million trail of the Hebrews who sojourned through the wilderness. When you are fatigued, guard your mind and mouth; Zip your lips and rest.

“Prayer and fasting is the wall that guards us from the spirit of Amalek”.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, when I am weak and weary help me to fortify my territory from the spirit of Amalek. Amen.
