Mark 5:35-36 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
There will be voices that try to shoot down our dreams and our destiny. The choice to believe the anxious suggestions, fearful insinuations and the discouraging opinions is in our hands. When troubled by the media or the messenger ask yourself this question – “Who said so”? God’s Word trumps the disturbing news and prediction. Trust, faith and belief will drive and direct our future.
Jairus was a synagogue ruler which means he was technically in ministry. His service to the Lord did not stop calamity from striking his family. He had a desperate situation. His only child, his 12 year old daughter, was dying. He pleaded with Jesus to rush to his house to heal his daughter however there was a delay on the way as the woman with a bleeding condition for 12 years was miraculously healed by reaching out and touching the garment of the Lord. Jesus stopped to talk to her and commended her for her faith. While Jesus was delayed, the bearers of the bad news from the home of Jairus informed him that his daughter was dead and suggested “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
While crunching the information and suggestions or predictions from people, stop and ask yourself the question, “Who said so”? Then ask yourself the second question, “What does God’s Word say about it”? Choose to believe what God’s Word says and not what the people, social media or new media predictions.
Jesus said, Don’t be afraid, just believe:
- Information: We are overloaded with information in the internet world. News spreads in seconds but it is our hands to process the information. Make a conscious choice to esteem God’s promises over man’s judgment in your heart.
- Insinuation: Information leaves us with implications and insinuation. Don’t be afraid. God’s Word is the final verdict over your life and future. Meditate on God’s Word.
- Intimidation: When information turns into destructive intimidation, listen to the Savior’s voice and just believe.
Don’t let people or propaganda intimidate you. Choose to believe God’s Word.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, Your word is the final verdict over my life. Strengthen my heart. Amen.
