Ephesians 1:18-19a I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.
The eyes of the heart are the lamp to the soul. A darkened soul whose eyes are blinded and shut to the spiritual realm would live in fear, dread and apprehension. The enlightened eyes will be able to see beyond what the natural eyes can see, perceive and understand.
Paul prayed that the eyes of the believers in the Church of Ephesus should be enlightened to the hope for which they have been called. Hope is not a perception but the person, Jesus Christ. “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Secondly, their spiritual eyes may be opened to understand the riches of the glorious inheritance of God’s special treasures and blessing that is hidden in the Word of God and thirdly, the incomparably great power of God that is available for all who believe.
The Prophet Elisha was surrounded by the enemy and the servant of Elisha who trembled at the great army but Elisha prayed to the Lord to open the eyes of his servant. Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (1 Kings 6:17b). Those who were with Elisha were more than the army that had surrounded him.
Challenges will turn into crowns and crises into credentials to the enlightened souls. The problem that we face may be a shock to us but it is not a surprise to the Lord. The Lord has gone ahead of us to overpower the enemy. The mighty angelic army with us outnumbers the hellish hound.
Enlightened Eyes:
- Hope: Enlightened eyes will hope against all hope because God’s Word can never fail.
- Heritage: Enlightened eyes can see their rich inheritance through faith.
- Hedge: Enlightened eyes can see a firewall of protection at all times.
Enlightened eyes will keep us in perfect peace at all times.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, please open my eyes to the hope, rich inheritance and the incredibly great power of the resurrected Saviour. Enlighten my perturbed heart to rest in your immeasurably power and dominion. Amen.
