Ephesians 1:18-19a I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.
The enlightened eyes will be able to see the riches of God’s glorious inheritance that is stored up for God’s holy people. When the eyes of the heart are enlightened we will be able to see into the spiritual realm. In the Old Testament, the men and women with enlightened eyes were addressed as “Seers”.
Deborah was a prophetess and a Seer. She was able to see nature and all of God’s creation contending for them against the enemy. She watched the angelic army fighting the battle on their behalf. From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul; be strong! (Judges 5:20-21). The earth shook, lightening struck and the heaven poured out torrents on the enemy. The river Kishon flooded and the wheels of the enemy were caught it’s the muddy banks. Deborah’s enlightened spiritual eyes could see the dark rain clouds and the heavenly constellation joining hands with the troops of Israel and overthrowing the enemy.
This is why Paul prayed that the eyes of our heart may be enlightened. The enlightened eyes will give us a vivid insight into the spiritual realm. Everything and everyone around us must and will work with us to fulfill God’s plan and purpose. The sun, the moon the stars, the cynical neighbour, the envious colleague, your boss, clients, suppliers, the economic condition, the government or company policies will aid us to fulfill our calling and purpose.
Enlightened Eyes:
- Policies: Don’t be threatened by policy changes. It will work out in your favour.
- People: Don’t be intimidated by people. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing (Daniel 4:34), in the sight of God.
- Power: All powers, dominions and authorities are under the King of kings. King Jesus has the final word, not the human authority.
Enlightened eyes can see people, powers and policies working in their favour.
Rest, God’s got this.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, open the eyes of my heart to see your mighty hand at work. Amen.
