Matthew 2:13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
The bright glowing sky with hosts of angels singing in the sky, (“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14)) turned into gloomy darkness when Joseph was warned in a dream to escape to Egypt. Joseph hastened and fled from Bethlehem to go into hiding. It is estimated that they stayed in Egypt for about 2 years until the death of Herod who sought to kill Baby Jesus. Herod was not the first one who tried to sabotage the birth of the Messiah.
In 1600 BC, the Pharaoh proclaimed a decree that all the boy babies born to the Hebrews who were in bonded slavery in Egypt were to be thrown in to the River Nile. However, there was one mamma among the Hebrew women, Jochebed, who refused to submit to the cruel verdict. For three months she hid baby Moses; but when she could hide him no longer, she laid him upon the waters, and the Pharaoh’s daughter found him and adopted him.The Lord God turned around the palace of the same Pharaoh who sought to exterminate the Hebrews to become a safe haven for the deliverer to be raised. God made the Egyptian treasury fund Moses to fulfill his destiny!
The nativity scene unfolds even today with ruthless Herods and brutal Pharoahs however the same God, who preserved the bloodline of the Jews, Baby Moses and protected Baby Jesus, is with us. He will make the enemy fund our progress, promotions and use the foe to make us prosperous.
We are part of Nativity:
- Preserve: We are preserved and protected by divine protection. No one can alter our destiny.
- Progress: Our progress cannot be hindered by the callous and the cruel.
- Prosperous: God will make the enemy fund our progress and make us prosperous.
We have divine favour that subdues the spirit of Pharaoh and Herod.
Prayer: Father Divine, help me not to be intimidated by the oppressing and abusive spirits but live under divine protection. Amen.
