28 December 2025 – Your Role in Nativity – Part 5

Matthew 2:2 Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

The magi were wise men from the East. Bible scholars believe that they must have travelled about 800 to 900 miles most likely from Persia, modern day Iraq. During the exile in Babylon Daniel was appointed as the chief of the wise men (Daniel 5:11), astrologers, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners by King Nebuchadnezzar after he interpreted his dream. Hence, it is also a common understanding that these men had read the handwritten scrolls of Prophet Daniel. They were knowledgeable about the timeline of the birth of the Messiah. They were God fearing men and were directed by the Lord and called the star that led them, “His Star”.

The wise men were also called the “Mysterious Visitors of the East” who came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh and were led to the Messiah by a luminous star – the “Star of Bethlehem”. The magi fulfilled a biblical prophecy from Balaam’s second oracle, which says, “A star shall come out of Jacob; a scepter shall rise out of Israel” (Numbers 24:17). Hence the magi were part of the Nativity. They did not visit “the manger” but “the house” of Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus. It is also believed that their visit was within the first two years of the birth of Jesus and not necessarily on the night on which Jesus was born.

The magi are still celebrated as wise men as they had read the scrolls of Daniel and were able to interpret the timing of the birth of King Jesus.

The knowledge of the scriptures makes us wise. “Testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7).

We are part of Nativity:

  1. Power: The knowledge of the Holy One makes us wise; wiser than our enemies (Psalm 119:98).
  2. Prophecy: The promises of God are prophecies over your life. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10). As we declare the promises, we prophecy over our life.
  3. Pathway: God’s Word leads us in the path of righteousness (Psalm 119:105).

The wise men from the East became part of the Nativity as they searched and studies God’s Word.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me deep revelations and sound understanding of your Word.  Amen.
