John 2:6-8 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.
The process of winemaking involves cultivating, harvesting, crushing, pressing and fermenting the grapes until the sugars are converted into alcohol. Traditional method of winemaking would take several months or even years. Wine matures in the vessel – the oak barrel or stainless steel tank.
The wedding that Jesus attended is contemplated as John’s wedding by Bible Scholars. Salome, John’s mum, was the cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Hence Mary got involved in the wine shortage at the wedding. Jesus manufactured the most exquisite tasting wine in seconds. He instructed the servants to fill the stone jars with water and then asked them to serve it to the guests. The Words of Jesus were the fermenting agents for ordinary drinking water to transform into sumptuous wine.
The Word of God in our mind and mouth is the fermenting agent that matures ordinary people into spectacular preachers/prophets/priests. “I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have revived me” (Psalm 119:93). When God’s commandments are “the content” in “the container of our soul”, our words will have the flavour of scrumptious wine and not ordinary water. Be filled with the Word of God which is the fermenting catalyst that transforms and positions you for breakthroughs.
God’s Word is the “Fermenting Agent” for Transformational Breakthroughs:
- Healing: Ancient physicians used wine as an antiseptic to clean wounds and kill bacteria. God’s Word is the antiseptic to heal broken hearts and traumatized souls.
- Healthy: Wine was the most common healthy beverage during Bible times as well water was contaminated. Similarly, God’s Word is the best drink to keep our soul healthy and hearty.
- Honour: Wine was an essential element in the offerings under the Mosaic covenant. Similarly, our lives become a drink offering when we are fermented and transformed by God’s Word.
God’s Word is the fermenting agent that transforms ordinary people into powerful preachers/prophets/priests.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I will read, retain and recollect your Word until it matures into a drink offering of exquisite wine. Amen.
