Matthew 15:28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
Sunlight, good soil and balanced fertilizers make a tree healthy and abundantly fruitful. Fruit thinning is an indication that the tree needs attention. Similarly, faith is the fertilizer that makes our lives fruitful. It is by grace we are saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9); We live by faith (Galatians 2:20), We walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7), We are justified by faith (Romans 3:28), our prayers are answered by faith (Mark 11:24) and we cannot please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is the fertilizer, the food and the nourishment that make us fruitful and purposeful.
The size of our faith will depend on our perseverance to live faithfully according to the Word of God. Irrespective of the severity of the trial that we are in, if we choose faith over fear, the measure of our faith increases tremendously. The disciples measure of faith in the storm was “little faith”. The fierceness of the storm faded away their faith (Matthew 11:20). However, the faith of the Syrophoenician woman who pursued Jesus for the healing of her daughter was commended as “Great Faith”as she did not waver in disbelief regarding the promises or the power of God. She did not allow her disqualification as a non-Jew to discourage nor did she request Jesus to come to her home and touch her daughter but believed that the words of Jesus had power to heal her daughter. Her perseverance met the power of God.
Great Faith:
- Persevere: Perseverance despite discouraging voices grows our faith from little to great faith.
- Perturbed: Great faith is not perturbed by the severity of the circumstance. The dryness, deadness or drought does not trouble our heart or steal our sleep when the measure of our faith is great.
- Power: Tiny mustard size of faith grows into great faith as we persevere without doubting, disbelieving or derailing from the promises of God. The higher we climb on the Ladder of Faith, the more glorious will be the wonder working power of God.
Perseverance is the faith-fertilizer thatnourishes and grows little faith to Great Faith.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, guide me to nourish my faith with the promises and perseverance to grow my faith. Amen.
