28 January 2026 – The Blessed – Part 7

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Blessed is the one who has fastened their trust on the LORD and not on their skills, success or smartness. The one who has their confidence rooted in the God their Creator and not one their accolades, influence or affluence, will be favoured by God. A tree planted by the river never lacks water and nutrients. The river bed is the most fertile piece of land that a tree can flourish. The rich alluvial soil makes it extremely productive and the access to water helps it to regulate the internal temperature.

“Sending the roots by the stream” is a spiritual metaphor for thriving on the life-giving water of the Word of God. Yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant (Job 14:9). Those who fill themselves with the Word of God through reading, retaining and ruminating will bud, bloom and bear fruit. Fear dissipates and faith blossoms. The entrance of thy words gives light (Psalms 119:130). The scent of God’s Word makes us fruitful.

Blessed are those who Trust in the Lord:

  1. Planted: Be planted in the truth. The name of the Lord is a strong tower against the fierce storm of sickness, suppression and scarcity. Meditating on God’s Word helps our roots to grow deeper and stronger in Him.
  2. Prolific: Faith comes and grows by hearing God’s Word over and over again. The heat of a tough circumstance will not scorch a person full of the Word as there is no fear in them. Faith overrules fear and their leaves are always prolific and green.
  3. Productive: Those who are full of the Word are not intimidated by the world system, economic slump or unemployment rate as they live in God’s economy. There is no recession in God’s economy. We will remain fruitful and productive.

Those who are planted in the Lord and His Word will remain prolific and productive in all seasons.

Prayer: Father God, I will feed on your Word and remain fruitful and fresh. Amen.
