Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.
“Our mouth must be hooked to our heart and not our head.”
The words, opinions, and reactions of people can cause fear of people. Human brains are wired to interpret social feedback as signals of acceptance or threat. Negative comments, criticisms and judgments can activate fear response in the brain. Rejection and disapproval can also instill fear.
Words have power to break or build. The way we process the words from people will either build faith or bind us with fear. Replacing the promises of God with the negative words, comments and criticisms is spiritual maturity. Impetuous and emotional people would insinuate others with their condemning reactions. Their mouth is hooked to their mind. They hurt, damage and bruise others with their mouth. The threats of men are like a snare. Those who get trapped by the opinion of others fall into the vicious cycle of trying to please people all their lives. It is a snare that we can never get out of, as it is impossible to please everyone all the time.
The great Prophet Elijah was trapped in the snare of the threats of Queen Jezebel. He trembled and fled for his life. The Lord God confronted him in Mount Sinai and reminded him of his unfinished assignments and missions. The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came” (1 Kings 19:15). The Lord sent him back the way he came to break the spirit of fear and to destroy the words of Jezebel, the witch. The fear of people will drown us in dread and derail us from our destiny. Do not be intimidated by the words of man. It will become a trap that will destroy your future.
Man’s Words vs God’s Promises:
- Snare: Being intimidated by the threats or the words of man is a trap. Don’t fall into the trap. Replace negative comments with the Word of God.
- Set-back: The devil uses negative words to disrupt our destiny. Crush pessimism with the promises.
- Success: God’s Word brings life, confidence and success. Overcome dread, death and delusion with the promises of God.
God’s Word is the final verdict on any matter.
Prayer: Holy Father, strengthen me to overthrow negative comments and criticisms with the promises. Amen.
