Joshua 7:4-5 So about three thousand went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai, who killed about thirty-six of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted in fear and became like water.
Breakthrough is not an ordinary advancement or a step forward. It is a dramatic advancement and a dynamic progression breaking demonic barriers and demolishing the diabolical strongholds.
Joshua’s first stupendous victory was ‘The Battle of Jericho’. All of Israel witnessed the powerful hand of God tear down the fortified walls of Jericho and annihilate the enemy. Joshua defeated 31 kings to conquer the Promised Land. The Lord fulfilled Joshua 1:8 and honoured Joshua by giving them a great victory over powerful kings and kingdoms. However, after the first great breakthrough victory at Jericho Israel fled and was shamefully defeated at a small town named Ai. Not knowing the reason for the shocking disgrace Joshua and the entire assembly fell before the Lord to seek His face. The Lord revealed that there was sin in the camp and one man named Achan had disobeyed and violated the covenant. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions (vs 11).
When there is a breakdown rather than a breakthrough, it is time for reflection, repentance and reconciliation. God has not missed performing His promise; we have missed obeying His Word. Our set back is not because God was not able to deliver us. It is because we have missed obeying His Word.
Joshua had to get rid of Achan, his family and his defiled possessions to overturn the breakdown to breakthrough.
From Breakdown to Breakthrough:
- Repent: God does not miss fulfilling His Word – We have. Go to Him with a humble heart and He will reveal the deep and secret things that have to be changed, corrected and transformed.
- Reset: Reset to recover and regain authority. Get rid of anything that steals the favour of God.
- Reconcile: Learn, reconcile, regain strength and move forward.
Repent, reset and reconcile to overturn breakdown to breakthrough.
Prayer: Father in Heaven, help me to be vigilant to anything and anyone who might cause a breakdown. Amen.
