Matthew 18:18 “Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
To “bind” is to arrest the advancement and to “loose” is to release, progress and permeate. The believer has the authority in the tip of their tongue to arrest and release. To use the authority that is entrusted to us we must first understand the scope of the power.
Matthew 18:15-20 includes the infiltration of sin into families, churches and communities. We have the authority over the tempting demons, incarcerating addictions and destructive transgressions that lead to iniquities and curses. We need not live weak, broke and helpless. We can detain and destroy the habits that lead us astray. We have authority to bind the luring demons and the weak flesh that wants to yield to the cheap pleasures.
God will not do what we can do for ourselves. Many ask the silly question as to why God did not stop Eve from biting into the apple or why the Almighty God does not stop us from falling into the same sin over and over again. The All-Powerful God is integrous to His Word. He has given us dominion to rule and to bind and loose. He will not violate His word. The Holy Spirit will warn and convict us through His Word, through people, pastors and well meaning friends but we make the choices and decisions to shape the course of our life.
We set the boundaries for the tempter and the temptations in our domain. Ugly thoughts must be bound to stop unwholesome words and unwarranted comments. Unleashed thought-life leads to undisciplined actions. So, bind anger, animosity and addictions; perversion, poverty and paucity. Bind spiritual darkness, rebellion and waywardness, sickness, weakness and spiritual blindness and release unity, purity and piety.
Exercise your authority to bind and loose:
- Alert: The Holy Spirit speaks to us through peace. If you do not have peace about something, stop – do not proceed. Be sensitive and alert to the Holy Spirit.
- Arrest: Arrest the advancement of the tempter by binding the demonic force.
- Abode: Abode and dwell in God’s presence.
Believers have authority to bind and loose the invisible forces.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, give me the alertness to bind and loose and guard my soul. Amen.
