17 March 2026 – Signature of God – Part 6

John 8: 6-8 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with His finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

The finger of God rewrites our story.

A woman who was caught in the act of adultery was thrown at the feet of Jesus. The penalty in the Mosaic Law was death. While the ruthless crowd accused the woman, Jesus stooped down to the level of the humiliated woman and started writing on the ground with His finger. Bible scholars have deliberated various possibilities of what Jesus would have written. Some say that He would have listed the sins of the people waiting to stone this woman. Jesus was “the Word” in flesh and blood, hence my personal reflection is that He would have written the scriptures as a reminder of His compassion and grace. “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin” (Exodus 34:6-7). The grace of God stooped down and the mercy of the Saviour lifted up this woman tarnished by immorality, blame and shame, from the rut of sin.

Jesus rewrote the future of this stigmatized woman and gave her a new beginning. The finger of the Saviour brought conviction on the accusers and they dropped their stones and left. Jesus said, “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin” (John 8:11) and granted her a brand-new start.

The finger of God rewrites our future:

  1. Rewrite: Jesus will re-write our shame into fame and turn ashes into accolades.
  2. Reset: Take the verdict of freedom and reset your priorities, purpose and prayer routine.
  3. Restart: Don’t let the devil fool you that your silly mistakes have put a full stop to your purpose. Restart and do not take grace for granted.

The finger of God rewrites our future.

Prayer: Merciful Father, thank you for forgiving me and re-writing my future. I will live a purposeful and fruitful life.  Amen.
