23 March 2026 – Why David? – Part 5

Acts 13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

David was ‘God’s go-to man’ – “A man after God’s own heart”.

Why would God call a man who committed the double-crime of murder and adultery as the man after His own heart? The testimony of the Lord stands firm even after David fell into sin, took the wife of Uriah to be his own and had him killed in the battle, because the Lord’s heart was softened by David’s earnest repentance.

When Nathan the prophet confronted David about his hidden sin David humbled himself. Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” (2 Samuel 12:13). David grieved over his immoralities, and sang a song of repentance (Psalm 51). The Lord accepted his plea for forgiveness. The blood of goats and bulls could not break the curse and the consequences of the sin, hence the son born to him out of wedlock died. However, we are under a better covenant which is superior than the old covenant. The blood of Jesus is more powerful than any sin, transgression or iniquityWe have freedom from curses and fiendish consequences through His blood.

David was not puffed with pride since he was the King of Israel. He did not insult the prophet or shun correction. He humbled himself and captured a special place in the heart of the Almighty.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God yet the quickness to repent and the tenacity to let go of stubborn transgression is a “blameless lifestyle”. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression (Psalm 19:13). Endeavoring to live a blameless life pleases God.

Become God’s “Go-to man/woman”:

  1. Blameless: The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever (Psalm 37:18).
  2. Benevolent: Quickness to forgive and a readiness to release offence are acts of benevolence that draw the favour of God.
  3. Blessed: The reward of the righteous is a blessed life (Psalm 89:15).

A blameless lifestyle wins the favour of God.

Prayer: Holy Father, give me the strength to overcome willful stubborn sins and live a blameless life.  Amen.
