Acts 13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
David was ‘God’s go-to man’ – “A man after God’s own heart”.
David was more God conscious than people conscious. People, position or power did not change his heart of worship. The Lord greatly appreciated him as there was no difference between his worship in the wilderness all by himself and his worship in the palace before all his subordinates and soldiers. Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets (2 Samuel 6:14-15). David was dressed like a priest as he worshiped the Lord with singing and dancing.
Linen ephod was a sleeveless waistcoat reaching to the hips, tied by a girdle, worn by non-Aaronic ministers, symbolizing “purity” and “righteousness” (Leviticus 16:4). David removed his kingly garment and chose to abase himself in the attire of a serving priest before the Lord in total submission. David did not care about the people who were looking at him – his eyes were fixed on His Saviour, Redeemer and the rock of his salvation. Worship wasn’t his weapon. His weapon was surrender and “surrender” was his worship.
David gave every bit of strength he had to worship God. David’s worship dance was not a few slow movements, it was like a jazz performance, enthusiastic, exuberant and extremely energetic. David’s authenticity and total surrender, engulfed by God’s presence, touched the heart of God.
Become God’s “Go-to man/woman”:
- Distracted: David’s worship was not distracted. He was not thinking about anyone or anything other than God his Saviour while he sang praises.
- Divided: David’s heart was not divided but he loved and served God wholeheartedly with all his might.
- Debased: David didn’t care about the opinion of his subordinates, servant girls or his mighty soldiers. He debased himself from a king to a peasant in reverential fear of God. David was more God conscious than people conscious.
Authentic worship qualifies us to become God’s go-to man/woman.
Prayer: Father in Heaven, make me more conscious of you than people around me. May my surrender be a sweet incense of worship to you. Amen.
