2 Kings 4:10 “Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”
Bible Scholars believe that Elisha frequently travelled between Mount Carmel and the Jordan Valley, and Shunem, a small village in the valley of Jezreel, was an ideal stopover. There was a wealthy woman in Shunem who welcomed him, served him hot food and offered bed and breakfast. The warmth of the unnamed Shunammite woman made her home Elisha’s favorite destination.
The life of this Shunammite woman is an exemplary example to make room for the miraculous. This woman was barren and her husband was old. Elisha wanted to repay the Shunammite woman for her kindness and hospitality, hence, he prophesied that she will bear a child. The woman did not just make room for the man of God; she made room for her miracle.
Making room for the Lord in our hearts and home opens the door to the miraculous. As the Shunammite woman built an upper room, our homes must have a prayer corner to recline with the Lord. It must be a go-to place for rest and refreshment. Convert your lounge into a miracle-site and your bedroom into a military-base. Our homes must become mission-centers for the lost. Furthermore, when we make room in our homes and hearts, to advance His kingdom, we welcome the King of Kings to come and reside with us. Our hearts and homes become His favorite destination.
God’s Favorite Destination:
- Miracle-Site: Making room for the prophet turned the home of the Shunammite woman into a miracle-center. Her dead son was raised to life in the same upper room of the prophet. Our home will become ‘a house of miracles’ when we make room for King Jesus.
- Military-Base: A house of prayer is like a spiritual military base that equips us to defeat the demonic.
- Mission-Centre: Make room in your home and heart to welcome and refresh the lost and weary souls. Jesus said, ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40).
Make room for the miraculous.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I will make room for you to turn my home into a miracle-site, military-base and mission-center. Amen.
